I am a dedicated husband and father to two wonderful kids. I have ADHD and so do my son (11), who is also contending with Asperger’s Syndrome, and daughter (9). I am a New York financial professional and business consultant and travel often. All this and just trying to get a grip…..
I just wanted to let you know I am loving your blog. I have a 6 year old with ADHD and currently I feel as if it is I who is losing her grip. I have never been diagnoised myself but I am fairly sure that I too have ADHD. I look forward to reading more..

Thank you! I’m glad you like what you’ve seen.
ADHD can be very hard on a parent. We want so much for our children. Then we face the difficulties that are presented by ADHD.
I hate to say that it may get worse before it gets better. The coming school years can be difficult. But I promise you will both survive. Dealing with your possible ADHD may help in your efforts. Stick around here and find other ways to get support from parents dealing with ADHD. You will find it encouraging to know you are not alone when things seem their worst.
Please contact me if there is anything you need.

Chris,
I too have ADHD and have been dealing with it for a long time. The therapist I am seeing is not helping me with it at all and it seems that the only way of living with it is doing what I do best…a million things all at once.
Keep on writing and i’ll keep on reading.

Thanks Ross.
Please consider other alternatives for therapy. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to find the person who can actually help and that you can connect with. Not every doctor or therapist is proficient in working with ADHD.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience.

Chris,
Great post. I have tried and am trying so many different things to help my child. One thing I have found is that Kirk Martin’s CDs are very helpful. Judging from your list, it seems like you might like his work, if you haven’t been using them already.
I cover a lot of ADHD discipline issues in my blog but I wanted to just contribute a quick and easy one to you. It’s called the “parking lot”. It is basically a way to teach them how to write down things to delay gratification but it also is a great way to stop a tantrum when your agenda does not match their demands. I think it suits all ages.

I’m so glad I found your blog. My son (age 10) also has ADHD and Asperger Syndrome. I’ll keep reading about your journey & watching for insights that will aid in that of my own family.
Welcome April! Thanks for joining us!
I am thankful I found your blog and now I can find others to relate with. My son is 9 and has ADHD and an IQ of 129. Up until he was tested I had no idea of what that number meant. I knew he was very smart which for a mom who has ADD can be intimidating especially, since I struggled with learning up until 5 years ago thanks to my daughter’s diagnosis with ADD.
Since then, I am always on the journey of learning more and more about the wonderful world of ADHD and ADD, I don’t enjoy the word disorder. I find your blog to be a gift to my journey and that of my children.
Muchas Gracias
Welcome to the club Mary. Thanks for sharing your experiences and stick around – this is far from over.
